The Power of Remembering

When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.”  Matthew 14:13

When Jesus left the city and went into the desert, the people went after him.  Why would they follow Him into a desert?  They saw something in the city that they wanted bad enough to follow Him anywhere.  Following Him meant sometimes He goes through the desert and if you continue to follow, you will pass through the desert also.

In the desert in verse 14 he  was moved with compassion and healed their sick.  In verse 19 he blessed and brake the bread, gave it into the hands of the disciples and they fed the multitude.  In the desert He fed and taught to feed.

In the wilderness (desert), the Israelites ate manna, drank water from a rock, was led by a cloud and fire, rested at an oasis of 70 palm trees, passed from a sea to a river and crossed both on dry ground.  The Lord led them in and then He led them out.

When we are following the Lord, we may follow Him into a desert place but He will also lead us out.  While in the desert, if He is our source, He will teach us how to eat and how to feed.

At the end of the desert place, He went to a mountaintop, crossed a stormy sea on foot and taught Peter to put the storm under his feet.  Following Him means some days are a desert, some a mountain, some a storm but each one has a beginning and an end!
