KEEP YOUR ROOTS DEEP

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”  Psalms 1:1-3

David defines the true meaning of being blessed.  By this generation’s standards, being blessed in newer cars, newer houses, boats, motorcycles, things, things, things.  This is totally opposite of David’s vision.  David says to be blessed is to take pleasure in the law of the Lord and to ponder His principles in day and night seasons.  WE MEDITATE ON HIS WORD OVER AND OVER UNTIL IT BECOMES A PART OF US!

As a result of loving His precepts, we become like a tree that has been planted (or transplanted) by a river of water that will not fade in a dry season.  A tree that grows beside the river does not depend on the rain for it’s life.  It has sent roots deep into the river bed that will draw water even in the driest seasons of the year.  As a result, the leaf will never wither and it will have an ability to produce good fruit all through the drought.  So it is when we have fallen in love with His Word!

When we are first beginning to follow the Lord, we require a continuous touch of His presence to remind us that He is with us and He loves us.  We depend on that touch just as a child finds comfort in the touch of a mother or father.  As we grow in Him and His Word begins to take root in our life, that necessity of feeling His touch to know He loves us and is with us begins to diminish.  We are rooted and grounded in the promises of His Word and His Word is growing in us.  We begin to draw life from our roots in the midst of our longest dry seasons.  He has planted us beside His river and we are not afraid of the drought!  WE KNOW OUR LIFE IS IN OUR ROOTS!

We will not fail…we will not faint….we will not wither….we will bring forth our fruit…and our fruit shall remain!  We will bring forth our fruit in day seasons and also in seasons of the night when all things are against us!  We do not produce fruit because all is well.  WE BRING FORTH FRUIT BECAUSE IT IS IN OUR ROOTS!
