THE MARK OF A GREAT NATION…
The mark of greatness in the eyes of God is to walk near unto his God and to follow righteous judgments and statutes. No wonder Moses was considered His friend! He knew His secret. He loved His presence. He loved His statutes. He purposed not to forget His judgments. “Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you…for the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.” Over and over in scripture the children of Israel forgot the power of their God, His love for them and His statutes. They began to worship the gods of their neighboring tribes and forgot their own jealous God. They forgot by the time they reached the Red Sea…they forgot in 40 days while Moses was on Sinai…and by the time they reached Jordan. God continually taught His people to remember Him and His statutes. At the Jordan River crossing He spoke to Joshua to take twelve stones from the midst of the Jordan where the priest’s feet had stood firm. Then in generations to come when their son’s saw the heap of stones where they had lodged on the other side of Jordan, they would remember…this is where the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord and we crossed over on dry ground. Let us not forget the God of our nation! The same God that has watched over us for thousands of years watches over His own people today! Let us not forget His statutes and judgments. He is righteous in His judgments and has mercy that endures forever. At this changing of seasons while the life of the tree (sap) is moving to the roots to build taller, stronger trees for the spring…set your heart to remember His statutes and His mercy to you. Remember how He has watched over you, healed you, brought deliverance to you and revealed His nature to you! Let this season bring deeper roots in your relationship with Him that you may walk taller (upright) before Him and stand stronger in the face of your adversity!
