WELLS OF LIVING WATER
After the death of Abraham, the Philistines filled his wells with earth and stopped them. When Isaac settled in Gerar (a dry valley), his servants dug in the valley and found a well of springing water.
The herdsmen of Gerar strove with Isaac’s herdsmen saying, The water is ours and he called that well Esek (contention). Isaac’s herdsmen departed and dug another well, and they strove for that one also; and he called it Sistnah (hatred). They removed from that place and dug another well; and they strove not. Isaac called this well Rehoboth (spacious) for he said, "For now the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land."
Isaac went from there to Beersheba (oath) and the Lord appeared unto him and said, "I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake."
Isaac dug and dug and dug again. With every well, there came a fight. Instead of staying and fighting for the wells, Isaac moved and moved and moved again. The first well was filled with contention. The second was filled with hatred. Isaac could have been satisfied to dwell at either place. Instead he continued to dig until he found a well that would not be tied to hatred and contention but springing water. If he would have stayed, there would not have been a Rehoboth or a visitation from the Lord. If we are content to dwell in the midst of hatred and contention, we will also miss our place of visitation. Just beyond settling for a life filled with strife is a well filled with living water and a visitation of His presence. If we choose to go on to Rehoboth, then we find He has made room for us and we will bring forth fruit!
It is human nature to stay in the midst of strife until hatred drops its seeds in our heart. It is His nature to leave contention and hatred behind and keep looking for your visitation.
Isaac was not afraid of leaving those wells behind for he knew how to find springing (living) water. When you know how to tap into that living water, you do not need to hold on to wells of contention and hatred.
Purpose in your heart in 2003 to leave behind your human nature and let His nature take full reign! You will find springing water…and you will find it digging in the valley.
"And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water."
