THE BABYSITTER
“Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the
land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” Exodus
20:12
My mother
was my best friend. She was a sinner until she was 36 years
old. Mother worked all her life as a seamstress in a factory.
She was a strict disciplinarian, teaching me some valuable life
lessons.
I was
taught a blessing for meal time, a prayer at bedtime and every now
and then she reminded me that she couldn’t see what I was doing or
where I was going all the time, but God could.
He saw everything I did. He would take care of me and He loved
me very much. I was told this because she went to work early
and got home two hours after me. I had to walk 1 ˝ miles to
and from school.
So God was my Babysitter. As a child I learned to talk
to God as my best friend. This was a great journey I
started with God at six years old.
I learned
early to do as my mother told me and listen to her voice.
I applied that to God. I knew I’d be safe if I followed
directions. This really helped when I became a Christian at 17
years old. I had already learned to “trust and obey for there
was no other way”.
I believed He would take care of me.
This must
be what God means when He said “suffer the little children to come
unto me”. This must be the lesson the Holy Spirit is teaching us
when He says “Come unto me in your youth.”
“O
God, thou hath taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared
thy wondrous works.” Psalms 71:17
“Remember
now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come
not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say; I have no
pleasure in them.” Ec. 12:1
Many times
in my life I have run into the arms of my Lord to take care of me.
He has always been Faithful!
Is God
your Babysitter? He should be!
