HDFM Sermon

In the stillness of the night....

"I will be as dew unto Israel..." Hosea 14:5

Dew falls in the middle of the night and nourishes the vegetation, flowers, and grass while the pores on their leaves are open and ready to drink before the heat of the day approaches.  On stormy, windy nights there is no dew.  It needs the stillness of a cool night.

Sheep can survive for months without a brook when they feed on grass at night or in early morning hours when the grass is heavy with dew.  The dew will sustain them until the rain comes.

So it is in our lives.  To drink from His refreshing dew, we meet with Him in the late night hours when the world is quiet or early, early in the morning before the busyness of the day begins.  His Word is heavy with the dew of His presence and we survive from the refreshing of the dew soaked Word.

In the wilderness when the dew was gone it left manna that sustained Israel until they reached their promised land.  In order to receive the manna they had to rise each morning and gather the manna left from the dew.  Walking through our wilderness He sustains us with a refreshing touch of His hand or visitation of His presence or an enlightened Word to us...this manna heavy with dew carries us until the rain comes!

I thank God this morning for the realness of His presence in my life...for the dew that sustains me during the heat of the day...and for the manna that comes down from above that nourishes me in my wilderness!

HE KNOWS OUR FRAME…

“I will lead on softly according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure.”  Genesis 33:14

Just as Jacob knew the limits of his cattle and his children and needed to lead them softly…so our Shepherd knows our strengths, weaknesses, abilities, downsittings, uprisings and our thoughts afar off…He knows our frame.

We have this promise…”there hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”  I Corinthians 10:13  If we are passing through difficulty…He knows that we are well able to endure and conquer it!  He knows our frame…

He leads us from one faith to another faith, one strength to another strength and one glory to another glory.  He knows what we need, when we need it and when we have reached our true end.  “He knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.”  Psalms 103:148

He orders our steps and leads on softly…”for ye have not passed this way heretofore.” Joshua 3:4   We are at a new horizon, walking into a new year, facing a new day.  We have not passed this way before but we can be confident that He that leads us leads us on softly…for He knows our frame.

His promises are yeah and amen...

“Thus saith the Lord; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant…”  Jeremiah 33:20-21

God’s promises to us are forever settled.  Just as there will always be day and night in their season and we do not have the power to break that cycle, His Word to us cannot be broken!  If He spoke it, it shall surely come to pass.

The enemy tries to dispute the promises we have received from our Father…just like he did with Eve in the garden.  His sly ways deceived her and she disobeyed the commandment of the Lord.  His voice still speaks to separate us from our promises, but we are not unwise to his devices.  We stand in confidence that God’s promises to us are forever settled in heaven.  They are yeah and amen!

Listen to His promise again.  “If my covenant be not with day and night and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant…” Jeremiah 33:25-26

Just as surely as night comes and morning follows, I can rest in the promise of His Word to me!  Battles come and victories follow.  Storms come and peace follows.  Sorrow comes and joy follows.  His Word is forever settled!  Stand today in the promise of His Word to you.  You may not see the end of His promise yet but it will come even as morning follows night.

He leads me through...

"Where is the Lord that brought us up out of the land of Egypt that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through and where no man dwelt."  Jeremiah 2:6

He did not deliver them out...He led them through.  He did not deliver Shadrach or Daniel or Elijah or Hagar....He led them through the fire, den and wilderness.  He is the same to a thousand generations...what He has done....He will do!  His name is alpha and omega, He is the same in the end as He was in the beginning.  If He led them, then He is leading us!

He led them through the wilderness, desert, pits, drought and the shadow of death.  A wilderness is a dry, riverless region where no water is.  A desert is a waste land, desolate or uncultivated land.  A pit is a deep place either natural or man-made. A drought is a solitary place or an arid patch.  A shadow of death is a place of calamity.  When I looked at these words today, they explain places I have walked with Him.  I have been through places that seemed there was no river to drink from...a desolate place....a solitary place....a place of calamity where there was no one to help me but Him.  I have passed through pits some were just every day natural pits to destroy me and some were man-made trying to turn me in another direction from the will of God.  I can say that through all these places I have walked through, He has walked with me!  His word is true that He will never leave nor forsake me!

Then we must read on to Jeremiah 2:7 that says, "And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof..."  If He led them through to a plentiful country to eat the fruit of the land....then we are also His children and He is leading us through every riverless region, every desolate wasteland, every man made pit, every solitary place and every calamity into a fruitful, plentiful country!  They were passing through natural deserts to natural fruitful countries, but we are passing through spiritual deserts into a spiritual fruitful place.  At the end of our desert is a visitation of His presence.  We fought our way through looking for that visitation....He has led us through victorious....now we have an oasis waiting for us!  He has led us through!
